Dear Young Democrat,
Here are the latest ways that you can get involved with your
state, your community, and your fellow Young Democrats:
- Take The Train to the Rock Hall or a Reds Game? Not if Ohio Republicans
Get Their Way. Passenger rail connecting the cities of Ohio is as close becoming to reality as
it has ever been in our lifetimes, but Republicans in the Ohio Senate are
standing in the way. Current proposals call for the construction of a
passenger rail line connecting Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus and Cleveland,
but Republicans on the Ohio Senate Transportation Committee could strip
funding for this project from the ODOT budget sometime next week. Act now,
and stop this from happening! Call or e-mail the key legislators noted on
the attached list as soon as possible and tell them to support passenger
rail in the ODOT budget.
- Grow Greater Dayton,
Feel the Love. On April 18th, updayton will host the first ever Young
Creatives Summit.
If you are interested in using the power of the arts, nightlife, and youth
to make the greater Dayton area prosper and to create a more livable,
loving space for young people and creative types alike, then you are very strongly encouraged to attend. Any and all Young Democrats interested in
attending this event with MCYD should contact me. Learn more about the event
and updayton here.
- 2008 Young Dem of the Year Voting
Ends Wednesday. At our last meeting, nominations were made and
voting was begun for the 2008 Montgomery County Young Democrat of the
Year. Sam Braun has been nominated for the award by me, Nolan Thomas, and
I have been nominated by Jennifer Denslow. Voting will come to a close
this week so that the award can be presented at the Montgomery County
Democratic Party’s Frolic for Funds on Tuesday, March 17th.
To cast your vote for Young Dem of the Year, forward this message with
your vote to kate.evans@montgomerydems.org before 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 11th.
- MCYD Officer Elections March 26th. The next meeting of the
Montgomery County Young Democrats will take place on Thursday, March 26th at 6:00 pm at Democratic Headquarters, 131 S. Wilkinson St. in downtown Dayton. At this
meeting, elections will be held for President, Second Vice President, and
Treasurer. To vote in officer elections, you must be a dues-paying
(annual dues are $10) member of MCYD.
- Help MCYD Stay Strong. Next month, the Montgomery County Young
Democrats will be rechartering with the Ohio Young Democrats. To make
sure that we are able to stay connected with other YD’s around Ohio and across the
country, we need to submit accurate information about our members as part
of this process. This is sort of like the census for the Young Democrats,
and like the census, its surprisingly important. Please take a moment and
help us out by sending me your
first and last name, your birthdate, and your current address, e-mail
address and phone number.
Finally, since this is a democracy, you have two choices for
the theme song for this e-mail – one is hard and the other is soft.
For Real,
Nolan Thomas
President,
Montgomery County Young Democrats
